GÖTAKVARTEREN IN THE CENTRAL STATION AREA – a complex collaboration for a brand new city district
Götaleden highway is being decked over, which will create new opportunities for developing housing, offices, parks and riverside walkways. The highway currently divides the city, effectively acting as a barrier between the inner city and river. The decking-over project, along with property developers’ investments in the area are bringing the vision for Älvstaden to life by uniting the city with its beautiful waterways.
Building a new city district on top of an over-decked highway involves great challenges, not least in terms of the traffic changes, logistics and complex building structures. Furthermore, creating a cohesive and vibrant neighbourhood requires profound knowledge of both urban and property development. To meet the challenges associated with the region’s expansion efforts, and to realize the vision for Älvstaden, collaboration between and among property developers and the city is a key factor for success.
Today, traffic is dominating the area but in the future, it will look completely different. Once fully developed, the city district will be home to approximately 2,000 residents and it will create nearly 16,000 new jobs along with cultural venues and green spaces. This new area will become an integral part of the city, helping to generate new business and adding to its vibrancy.
As property owner, our contribution is the investments we are making, along with our knowledge and experience from prior projects. In collaboration with the city, we will solve these complex issues and challenges, making Älvstaden the pride of Gothenburg.
Now it begins. Soon, the future is here.
